No Rate Increase for 2020 Sewer Bills

Sewer customers in Hamilton County will not see an increase in their 2020 bills. At their last meeting of the year, Hamilton County Commissioners approved the 2020 budgets for the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSD).  The Board approved the Operating Budget and Capital Improvement Plan with conditions that will protect sewer customers by freezing rates.

MSD is a County Sewer District owned by Hamilton County and is operated by the City of Cincinnati on behalf of the County.

“Keeping rates low while fulfilling our commitment to the environment is our top priority,” said Commission President Denise Driehaus. “We continue to provide financial stability to MSD that reins in overspending and saves county ratepayers money.”

“Before the holidays, it’s wonderful to be able to assure ratepayers that their sewer bill will not increase next year,” said Commission Vice President Stephanie Summerow Dumas. “We’ve frozen rates and sufficiently fund MSD so critical programs, like the Sewer Backup (SBU) Response program, are available if and when our customers need help.”

“The county has a proven track record of protecting ratepayers and homeowners,” said Commissioner Todd Portune. “I’m proud to continue that tradition as I finish my term in office.”

Commissioners have kept MSD charges at the same rate since 2015.
